The stats are ugly for Bo Wallace, but he never had a chance.

Wallace was pressured by TCU defenders on 20 of his 32 dropbacks, which resulted in 4-of-11 passing for 73 yards, one interception and six sacks. 16 of the pressures on Wallace occurred in the first half, as TCU built their early lead.

Despite what the scoreboard showed, Trevone Boykin didn’t exactly perform like a quarterback who led an easy route.

Boykin tossed three interceptions, two of which came from a clean pocket. He also completed just six of 12 passes thrown beyond 10 yards from the line of scrimmage.

The major different between Boykin and Wallace was the pressure. Boykin attempted 26 passes from a clean pocket, compared to just 11 for Wallace.

If there was one positive in this game for Ole Miss, it was the run defense. TCU runners were stuffed at or behind the line of scrimmage seven times by Ole Miss defenders. And while Boykin led all rushers with 75 yards, only 41 came on designed runs.

The issue for Ole Miss was their reliance on the undersized Jaylen Walton, who was helpless against TCU’s front seven. Walton was stuffed three times in eight attempts and managed just one run beyond three yards (a whopping five-yard gallop in the second quarter).

Ole Miss desperately missed Laquon Treadwell in this one. Without their star receiver, the Rebels managed to haul in just two of nine contested targets.

With no fear of Ole Miss’ other receivers, TCU focused on Evan Engram and held him to just two targets and one spectacular diving catch.

The Rebels struggled to contain Josh Doctson, as he hauled in all six of his catchable targets for TCU, including one touchdown.

Wallace played poorly, and he has himself to blame for much of it as evidenced by the three hurries which he caused himself. But his offensive line did him no favors.

Robert Conyers was a revolving door at both center and right tackle, as Ole Miss was forced to shuffle their line during the game due to injuries. Conyers allowed a total of seven pressures, including four hits and a sack for a 76.7 pass block percentage.

The Ole Miss struggles were compounded by the injury to star left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The injury forced Fahn Cooper (five pressures allowed) to shift to left tackle, with tight end Jeremy Liggins (three pressures allowed) effectively serving as insurance behind.

TCU’s offensive line held strong, as Boykin (one sack allowed, one hurry allowed) did as much damage to himself as anyone.

TCU’s front seven was in the backfield all night, led by Chris Bradley’s seven pressures. Paul Dawson and Davion Pierson added six apiece.

While Dawson flashed some big play ability with his pressure, he also led all defenders with three missed tackles on nine attempts.

For Ole Miss, the story on defense was Robert Nkemdiche’s continued lack of impact. Nkemdiche did not generate a single pressure as a pass-rusher, and managed just two tackles, including one stuff.

While the passing stats weren’t eye-popping for Boykin, Ole Miss’ secondary certainly wasn’t the cause. Mike Hilton and Senquez Golson were targeted a combined 13 times, allowed nine receptions for 110 yards and contested just one pass (and it was caught).

TCU’s top corners, Ranthony Texada and Kevin White, allowed just two receptions on eight targets.

White was particularly effective, shadowing Cody Core. Wallace targeted Core three times with White in coverage, resulting in just one catch for 20 yards.
